Upon completing high school, Trey Burke was considered one of the top point guards in the country and he eventually decided to play for the University of Michigan. After a strong freshman season, many thought Burke would jump to the NBA but he decided to remain in school. His decision paid off for Michigan and he helped lead the team to the 2013 NCAA Tournament Championship, where they lost to Louisville. Burke was named the Big Ten Player of the Year and swept the four major player of the year awards.

After his impressive sophomore season, Trey Burke elected to enter the 2013 NBA Draft. He was selected 9th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was immediately dealt to the Utah Jazz. There were high expectations for Burke, especially since Utah was weak at the point guard position. The early injury lessened the hype, but his terrific play once he returned has his stock trending upward. Trey Burke also snagged Rookie of the Month Awards in December, January and April, quickly establishing himself as the top rookie in the Western Conference.
