With the Ice Bucket Challenge sweeping the globe, raising awareness and funds for ALS charities, card companies are getting involved. After being challenged, Upper Deck answered the call. At the end of their video, the California-based card maker nominated Topps. They responded not only with the traditional bucket-over-the-head fashion but by creating a set of baseball card-style prints of Pete Frates.
Frates, a former baseball player at Boston College, was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. While he wasn't the first person to take the Ice Bucket Challenge, Frates is credited as one of the people to help jump start it and make it a viral sensation.
Topps has created a set of five different Pete Frates prints, each using a different design from the company's archives: 1958, 1963, 1975, 1985 and 1987. Available exclusively through Topps.com, individual 10" x 14" prints are $19.99. Set of all five prints measuring 5" x 7" are also available for $24.99.
Prints are done on vintage-style stock, giving them a baseball card look and feel.
All proceeds from the sale of these prints will be donated to ALS research. You can also donate directly to the ALS Assocation through their website.
