Tony Gonzalez Catches Everything but the Hobby’s Attention

Tony Gonzalez Catches Everything but the Hobby's Attention 1Tony Gonzalez continues to defy his age, still consistently putting up strong stats as an NFL tight end. This past weekend saw Gonzalez move into second place in career receptions, overtaking both Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison. Gonzalez finished the game with five receptions for a career total of 1,104 catches. This bests Carter's 1,101 and Harrison's 1,102. Only Jerry Rice has caught more passes and his lofty total of 1,549 will not likely be topped by anyone anytime soon.

Although Gonzalez has been a mainstay in the top-tier of tight ends and a regular All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection for most of his career, the position does not command the same hobby power as quarterback and running back. Because of this, it is still easy to pick up any of Gonzalez's 1997 rookie cards for a reasonable amount. The best rookies to target include his 1997 SP Authentic, 1997 Topps Chrome and 1997 Finest cards.

In addition to his many achievements, Gonzalez set the mold for the new wave of athletic tight ends that are currently featured on several top teams. They include Antonio Gates, Vernon Davis and Jimmy Graham, among others. Gonzalez will forever be remembered for his production and is easily the most decorated tight end in history.

His hobby values will never reach superstar status but his levels will remain steady and should see a slight bump once he hangs up his cleats for good and assumes his spot in Canton. However, this does not appear to be happening anytime soon and football fans should expect to have Gonzalez around for a few more seasons.
