While Panini is aggressively adding several college licenses to the trading card portfolio, Upper Deck isn't done with college-licensed cards yet. They've announced a multi-year exclusive deal with Notre Dame University for many of their athletic programs.
Among the early plans for the new deal is a line of limited edition signed memorabilia, a multi-sport set of trading cards and a Notre Dame Master Collection set. If it falls in line with recent Master Collection sets focused on Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, this will be an extremely high-end box set. Upper Deck expects to release further details on these products in the new year.
Besides including Notre Dame players in their college products over the last few years, 2013 Upper Deck Notre Dame focused exclusively on the school's storied football program.
Joe Montana and Paul Hornung are among the school's notable alumni from the world of sports. Should Upper Deck draw from other areas for alumni, Condoleezza Rice, Regis Philbin, Phil Donahue, astronauts Kevin Ford and Anthony Good, and author Nicholas Sparks are among the possibilities. Sparks actually attended the school on a track and field scholarship.
