For many golf collectors, they're probably thinking, "It's about time!" with regards to finally having a Rory McIlroy card that falls under the traditional rookie card definition. And it's an autograph no less. While McIlroy's 2014 SP Authentic Golf Rookie Signatures card is driving sales of the product, it's just one of many autographed rookie cards in the set.
Mixing players from the PGA and LPGA, 2014 SP Authentic Golf has a total of 36 cards in the Rookie Signatures subset. Numbered to either 699 or 299, they're inserted at a rate of at least one per hobby box.
The 2014 SP Authentic Golf Rory McIlroy was fast moving at the time of the set's release. In the first couple of weeks, prices for the card on eBay have ranged from a low of $625 (an early Best Offer) to $1,699.99 for a BGS 9.5. Most went for $800 to $950.
Besides McIlroy, other top cards in the subset include Michelle Wie, Graeme McDowell, Victor Dubuisson and Cheyanne Woods, Tiger's niece.
Wie has previous autograph cards dating back as far as 2011 with Leaf. McDowell appeared in a set given out at a golfing event, but most will likely still see this as his rookie. The inclusion of a signature should certainly make his 2014 SP Authentic card more desirable.
