From Hot Lips to the Duke Boys: 2014 Panini Golden Age Autographs

If you grew up anytime between the 1960s and 1980s, there will be a lot of familiar names on the 2014 Panini Golden Age autographs checklist. And while the set markets itself as a baseball set, it's actually a broad mix of sports and entertainment. In fact, most of the biggest names in the product come from the small screen.

Every 2014 Panini Golden Age hobby box has at least one autograph. Some have two. The Historic Signatures set is large with 49 signers on the checklist. All but one of the cards is signed on-card.

Because of the broad subject matter, it means that several people are first-time signers. While there is nothing quite on the level of notoriety as the Bad News Bears autographs from 2013, 2014 has several notable debuts.

Dick Van Dyke leads the way. Star of Mary Poppins, The Dick Van Dyke Show and countless movies, it's not a stretch to call him a Hollywood legend. He is the only peson on the Historic Signatures checklist to have a sticker autograph.

Other actors getting their first autograph cards are largely known for one role. There's Loretta Swit who played Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on M*A*S*H. Leave It to Beaver is represented by both Tony Dow (Wally Cleaver) and Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskell).

Although they've signed for various sets over the years, 2014 Panini Golden Age is the first time John Schneider (Beau), Tom Wopat (Luke) and Catherine (Daisy) from The Dukes of Hazzard have all signed for the same set.

Top baseball signers include Pete Rose, Ernie Banks (a redemption) and Steve Carlton.

One of the nice things about Golden Age autographs is that, historically, most are extremely affordable. It has more of a niche appeal rather than catching on big like the Major League Autographs did in 2014 Topps Archives last year's Bad News Bears.
