The biggest upset in the bracket tournament for the greatest Topps baseball set of all-time was saved for the end. 1956 Topps Baseball, ranked sixth after initial voting, took out top-ranked 1952 Topps Baseball with a full 55% of the votes in the final round.
To reach the top, 1956 started out by handily beating 1999 Topps Baseball. From there it took out the 1958, 1959, 1983 and 1975 sets. 1952, 1975 and 1983 were the top three ranked sets entering the bracket, which was determined in advance with readers selecting up to ten of their favorite sets.
From the start of the bracket battle, it looked to be 1952's to lose. Being the groundbreaking set that it is, few will argue its importance. But "best" can be defined in different ways by people. 1956 doesn't have any truly classic rookie cards either. So it looks like it may have been design that came out on top.
