It's still Five Star, but it is not the same Five Star of recent years. Featuring two cards per box and a price tag north of $120, Five Star is hardly cheap, but it is much more accessible to a greater range of collectors. Plus, there are still some big hits to be found.
With a new format designed to make boxes more affordable, there are some noticeable changes in 2015 Topps Five Star. Most obvious, the cards per box has dropped from six to two and there are only autographs in the entire release. Gone are the relic-only cards like Bat Knobs, Nameplates and Letters. While this is a big loss for the set, something had to go.
Not nearly as ornate as previous designs, the Base Autographs still feature a quality look. Although on-card autographs are normally the preference, the lack of serial numbering on the base versions will probably be a bit of a disappointment for some collectors. Another noticeable omission is Carlos Correa, while the Kris Bryant cards all appear to be redemptions.
There are still plenty of great options in 2015 Topps Five Star Baseball. Silver Signings and Golden Graphs are as striking as always and the Autographed Jumbo Patch cards are a sight to behold. Offering the biggest hits in the release, there are several cut signature insert sets filled with some all-time greats along with the MLB Silhouetted Batter Logo Patch Autographs. Given that they are all one-of-one cards, they will be very tough to pull, but the potential is there for some amazing stuff.
