Variations are certainly not a new concept in collecting, but anytime something comes along that offers an option that is a little different, collectors tend to take notice. The distinct artistic design of the 2015 Panini Gridiron Kings Variation cards give them a striking look and the rarity means that they will be a tough set to track down even with the small checklist.
Featuring a good mix of new and old stars, each of the subjects have made considerable waves in the NFL and were college standouts before that. The base version for each card includes the player as they are currently seen on Sunday and the variation looks back at their college days. In addition to the obvious image difference, the variation also replaces the "Gridiron Kings" text at the bottom with each players's college.
While image variations can be easily overdone, the 2015 Panini Gridiron Kings Variation cards are limited to just ten subjects that average only one every two cases. Still rare, there are also limited Blue Frame, Green Frame, Red Frame and Black Frame (1/1) parallels.
