The 2014 Topps Series 2 Baseball variation short prints fall under a few different themes. Some are easy to spot. Others, you need to look at the stats on the back. And then there are the Sparkles.

No matter how you look at it, there are a lot of different variations.

Future Stars

A couple of the themes carry over from the Series 1 variations, like Future Stars. This time there are more than the first time around. There looks to be 24 Future Stars and all but one has the player in a Futures Game uniform.

The lone exception is Masahiro Tanaka. His photo variation shows him at a podium during a press conference.

Future Stars look to be the easiest 2014 Topps Series 2 Baseball variations, falling about one per box.

Sabermetic Stat Backs

New for 2014 Topps Series 2 are variations that offer a completely different outlook on stats. Sabermetric Stats variations switch out the traditional stats on the back for a more modern outlook. The pictures are the same on the front so you have to flip them over.

These variations can also be spotted another way. Unlike all the other Series 2 variations, they have a different code in the fine print on the back. Sabermetric variants end in 75. Series 2 base cards and other variations all end in 34.

Sabermetric variations are the second most common, showing up about half as often as the one-per-box Future Stars.

Sparkles

Sparkles return once again. These cards have a small sparkly glint added to the card. It can be tough to spot, especially when the white sparkle is put against something else that's white like a jersey.

Sparkles look to be a case hit.

Snoopy

The final 2014 Topps Series 2 variation involves one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time -- Snoopy. He can be seen smiling in the dugout of a Series 1 Joe Mauer card. The back also has a Peanuts Sports logo. It looks as though Mauer is the only Snoopy variation.

It is worth noting that many of the Series 2 variations add new versions of 2014 Topps Series 1 cards. This should help identifying them in packs as anything numbered below 332 should be a variation of some kind.

Also, Matt Harvey and Pedro Alvarez have had their numbers switched around for their Series 2 variations. Harvey's Series 1 base card is #33 and Alvarez is #192. Variations here have them switched with Alvarez as #33 and Harvey as #192.
