Highlights
Although the response from collectors has been mixed, especially with the high price tag and hit-or-miss format, there is no denying that there are some impressive booklet cards to be found in 2013 Panini Playbook Football. Of course, the product contains traditional autographs and base cards, but with at least two of these special cards per box, booklets are the clear focus of this high-end release. The additional space allows for some interesting cards and several standout options. Also, the card design shows an overall upgrade from 2012 Panini Playbook Football.
2013 Panini Playbook Booklet Highlights
Rookie Booklets
As the the primary rookie option, these booklets will continue to see attention despite the weaker group of players. Featuring both signed and unsigned versions, plenty of low-numbered variations and parallels add variety. Also, unsigned booklets include some of the largest patches.
Down & Dirty Booklets
As the name suggests, these cards showcase some dirt and grass, providing a more complete game-used feel. This might be one of the few instances where the "sick, nasty, disgusting" lingo, which has become far too common in the hobby, is actually appropriate. Some are dirtier than others, but these cards have definitely caught the attention of collectors.
Veteran Booklets
While the checklist of non-rookie players is limited, the majority are top-level players, including Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning. The set also highlights several of the standout rookies from 2012, such as Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson. Again, plenty of parallels are available for each, but the print runs are considerably lower than the rookie booklets. Unfortunately, many of the autographed versions appear to be redemptions.
Coaches Autographed Booklets
Another instance where the majority of cards come as redemptions, this small checklist includes some of the most highly-decorated coaches in NFL history.
Flywire Booklets
Last, but not least, Flywire Booklets are a very rare and intriguing inclusion. The card takes three large pieces from the Nike Flywire jersey collar, including the logo, and combines them in a trifold booklet. The result is a huge and unique card, numbered one-of-one. There is also a one-of-one laundry tag parallel.
