2013-14 Topps Premier Gold Soccer marks a new chapter for the card maker's efforts in the sport. While their European arm has produced high-end soccer sets in the past, this is the first time a premium Topps English Premier League product has been designed with North American collectors in mind. Autographs play a major role in the product.
2013-14 Topps Premier Gold Autographs fall under four subsets: Future Stars, International Icons, Match Winners and Star Players. Besides basic versions there are Gold (#/50), Orange (#/25), Printing Plate and Platinum (1/1) parallels.
The horizontally designed cards have lots of white space. The signatures are done on clear stickers, which may be a turn off for some. The only difference between the four subsets is the name that runs up the side of the card.
Like many of company's products for other sports, the 2013-14 Topps Premier Gold autographs lineup includes a mix of current players and retired greats. Leading the way are International Icons autographs from Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Gianfranco Zola and Pelé. The first Ronaldo to sell on eBay topped $400. The one-of-one Platinum parallel for Bale closed at $1,000.
In addition to the regular autographs, 2013-14 Topps Premier Gold also has dual-, triple- and quad-signed cards as well as autographed relics.
