Overview

1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Baseball launched a revolution in sports figures. They may not be the most detailed piece compared to today's McFarlanes and other similar products, but Starting Lineup helped build the foundation. Prices may not be as high as they were during the heyday of SLU, but there are still lots of dedicated collectors.

The 1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Baseball checklist features an impressive 124 figures. That's bigger than some baseball card sets. All MLB teams are represented, although Toronto and Montreal have just one figure each.

Figures stand about four inches tall. Likenesses aren't very detailed, but they're not totally generic either. Players are shown in their team uniforms. They're posed in various positions including batting, fielding and pitching. Figures have very limited movement and articulation.

1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Baseball figures are packaged on a blue and white blister card. Those that are mint in package are worth the most today. Like baseball cards, condition of the packaging can greatly impact potential values. Loose figures are worth significantly less, although they can find an audience with casual collectors.

A baseball card is also included with the figure. Although very plain, they are popular with player and oddball card collectors.
